Light-Based Acne Treatments
Tame Outbreaks with Forever Clear® in the Little Rock Area
Pimples are a problem for many people, ranging from annoying occasional outbreaks to chronically red and bumpy skin. While there are many ways to address this problem, which is both a medical and cosmetic condition, one option is to use light. Acne treatments at the Little Rock area’s Dermatology Group of Arkansas are customized to the patient, so we work with each individual to determine the best approach.
For patients whose outbreaks would best respond to light, Dermatology Group of Arkansas uses Forever Clear®, a device made by Sciton to clear acne without the need for topical creams or medications.

How Do Light-Based Acne Treatments Work?
Flare-ups of pimples and pustules occur due to the presence and multiplication of bacteria in plugged pores, as well as the body’s immune response to that problem. Preventing outbreaks as much as possible by keeping pores open is ideal, but some people are simply more prone to struggling with blockages and the resulting inflammation.
Forever Clear® acne treatments work by addressing the causes of outbreaks in three steps that involve different types of light. The main application is BBL, which stands for “broadband light.” Not a laser, BBL treatments take the form of intense pulses of light that pass through the skin’s surface to heat the tissues beneath. Forever Clear® acne treatments also make use of infrared light.
The first step in a three-part acne treatment uses blue broadband light to directly target bacteria in the pores. The powerful pulses kill the p. acnes bacteria, which are common on the skin, but can cause problems in the right conditions.
The second step is using yellow broadband light to reduce redness in the skin and calm inflammation related to the bacteria.
The third and final step involves infrared light applied to encourage healing in the skin. For this stage, we use the gentle SkinTyte™ device.
While a single light-based acne treatment can be effective, most patients find that they achieve the best results after several sessions.
Are There Other Acne Treatments Available?
Light-based acne treatments are ideal for some patients, but others respond better to prescription medications, which are a go-to option at our practice. Another common acne treatment involves using chemical peels to remove the outermost layer of skin and keep pores free from being clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and debris.
