Sculptra®
Promote the Skin’s Natural Regenerative Process to Add Volume and Lift in the Little Rock Area
A youthful-looking face has plenty of collagen, which provides structure for the skin. Unfortunately, weight loss, sun exposure, and the aging process all contribute to loss of collagen—and volume—in the face, resulting in an older appearance. These factors also cause similar changes to the hands. Injectable Sculptra® at the Little Rock area’s Dermatology Group of Arkansas can counter these effects by helping to generate new collagen that restores lost volume and rejuvenates the skin!

What Is Sculptra®?
Sculptra® is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved injectable cosmetic treatment that addresses the underlying cause of facial aging by encouraging gradual collagen production. The primary active ingredient in Sculptra® is a synthetic, biocompatible, and biodegradable material called poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which improves the deep, underlying structure of the skin. This is the same type of material used for dissolvable stitches. The PLLA acts as a collagen stimulator. Its microparticles are naturally absorbed by the body, where they promote the production of collagen that adds fullness and helps to minimize the appearance of wrinkles or folds.
What Does Sculptra® Treat?
The main benefit of Sculptra® is its ability to restore facial volume in a subtle, gradual way. The injectable is intended for addressing mild to severe lines and wrinkles, and it is highly effective on smile lines (nasolabial folds) between the nose and mouth, marionette lines, and chin wrinkles. It has also been recently FDA-approved to reduce cheek wrinkles.
Sculptra® is also the first and only PLLA collagen-stimulating injection that has been clinically proven to reduce wrinkles on the cheek area while also enhancing skin firmness and quality. The collagen restores a more youthful appearance in a subtle way as it “fills out” creases and grooves.
Who Is an Ideal Candidate for Sculptra®?
This treatment can be ideal for patients who are over the age of 18 and want to address common cosmetic concerns. Patients who are allergic to ingredients in Sculptra®, who have an active skin infection or inflammation, or who have or a history or tendency of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring should not have this filler treatment. It is also not recommended for those who are pregnant, nursing, or immunocompromised.
What Can You Expect from a Sculptra® Treatment?
Sculptra® is introduced deep into the skin layer via multiple small injections to stimulate collagen production. This filler reduces the depth of wrinkles and adds fullness to improve sunken areas while also maintaining the patient’s natural face shape. Although patients may notice some improvements just after a Sculptra® session, it can take months for the full results to show as they continue to evolve.

What Are Recovery and Aftercare Like for Sculptra®?
You will typically be able to resume your normal activities after treatment since there is minimal to no recovery time. There will be some mild side effects such as swelling, tenderness, and redness that resolve on their own within a few days. The number of treatments and injections needed will vary from individual to individual. We will help you determine how many treatments you’ll need to maximize results. However, for optimal results, patients will usually need three treatments spaced out over the course of three or four months. The results from Sculptra® are long-lasting. They appear gradually and can last for up to two years.
What Are Some Ways to Reduce Wrinkles Aside from Sculptra®?
In addition to Sculptra®, Little Rock’s Dermatology Group of Arkansas offers hyaluronic acid-based facial fillers like the Juvederm® and Restylane® collections for diminishing wrinkles and adding temporary volume that plumps and smooths the skin, as well as shapes more youthful facial contours.
BOTOX® and Dysport® are botulinum toxin injections that relax certain facial muscles to prevent wrinkles from forming and create a younger look. Unlike fillers, which are mainly used on static wrinkles, neuromodulators are only effective on wrinkles that are associated with habitual facial expressions.
