Wrinkle relaxers are ideal for targeting dynamic lines, which develop on the face due to repetitive muscle contractions that play out over years. Anyone who has ever looked into their options for smoothing unwanted frown lines will likely know that they have more than one option. At Dermatology Group of Arkansas, Dysport® and BOTOX® are the two medications our injectors use to provide natural-looking results.
Treatments are quick, the effects are reliable, and patients tend to love the smoother look they get after an injection session.
What’s the difference between the two treatments? Read on to learn more!
Both injectables are made from a purified version of botulinum toxin, which has the useful ability to prevent muscles from contracting. When injected into specific areas of the forehead, for example, they can keep frown lines from forming and growing deeper and more visible, even when you scrunch your eyebrows together.
Frown lines, in particular, are a treatment area the two injectables have in common. The FDA approved Dysport® specifically to smooth what are technically known as glabellar lines, while BOTOX® is approved for four specific cosmetic uses: frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet, and neck bands.
Both Dysport® and BOTOX® provide results that last three to four months, but Dysport® is known for taking effect a bit sooner than BOTOX®, providing results that are visible within a couple of days as opposed to up to five days.
Dysport® is also known for having a smaller molecule size, which allows it to diffuse more upon injection. This means its effects can impact larger area, and some people feel that this property gives the results an even more natural look.
Which of these two injectables is right for you? Let the Dermatology Group of Arkansas team help you figure that out! We can take a close look at your skin, discuss your cosmetic goals, and chart the best path forward together.
